Bad News For Billions

You may recall a recent post about the pilot episode of the Showtime Series Billions.  I was deeply intrigued by Paul Giamatti's boot-filled fem-dom relationship with his wife and I found promise in the show's winter-in-Manhattan setting.  Well, episode two was clearly filmed in the summer and there wasn't the slightest hint of anything interesting between Paul and Maggie Siff.  Worse, the "Previously on Billions" intro didn't make a single allusion to that most interesting part of the show.  I understand that months can pass between pilot and episode filming, but I fear that the network "notes" included, "lose the kinky stuff."

This is why I'm a pessimist.

After highlighting the wonderful booted femdom scene in the pilot episode of Billions, I was deeply critical of the second episode for appearing to abandon that story line.  Clearly I was premature. That fun-loving couple is back in episode 3. The boots themselves get little screen time, but I am deeply impressed by this scene. It is a topic of some interest to me, and I've never seen it presented quite this well. A successful, "normal" appearing couple play bedroom games that both enjoy, but both are clearly aware it's a game. I let this clip run far longer than the boots require. I still trimmed out a fair amount of dialog, but I left enough to give a taste.

Two random thoughts, the key-frames on this were a little loose, so I was forced to include a few seconds of extraneous scenes. AND Billions doesn't' seem completely horrible. It feels like Aaron Sorkin lite and while it's probably as realistic a look at high finance as Blood & Oil is about oil drilling, it might be watchable.....if I had time to start actually watching another show.

The Showtime series Billions never lived up to its potential, but here's a long sequence with bits of Maggie Siffs OTK's AND a scene with Paul G getting his freak on(S01E11). The old Bruce would have wasted an hour writing this in the hope that you would find him clever and insightful. Screw that!

Billions (this is from the pilot) debuts on Showtime this Sunday.  I am quietly optimistic about this show.  It's a stylish series that's filmed in New York and the first episode at least was set in the winter.  Oh yeah, and one of the main characters plays fem-dom games with his wife(who's also a main character).  I'm sure more specialized blogs will have a field day divining  meaning from this relationship, which might be unprecedented on television. For our purposes we have a show that has a lot in common with Blood & Oil (and is probably equally realistic) AND might manage to squeeze in a few boot worship scenes.

From a fashion standpoint, the pilot was disappointing but showed promise. Malin Akerman was routinely in stunning casual-wear marred by 2014-era ankle shoes and when Maggie Siff (above) isn't posing  on her husband, she leans towards leather pants and ankle-shoes. If the platinum age intrudes on this show, it could be very nice indeed. Of course a few more scenes like the one above and I won't care too much about the fashion aspect.
