Barbarella (1968) is a boot classic I have mixed feelings about. Two of my favorite "secret" photos growing up were one of Jane Fonda supine in the stripy thigh boots and Anita Pallenberg (that top picture) as the Great Tyrant in those waist high boots (and those gloves and that choker and that eye-patch). When I was 20 and finally saw the movie in a revival theater in San Francisco (nobody under 45 understands the pre-home video universe) I was REALLY pissed and disappointed that Barb only spends a few minutes in those boots and we NEVER get a good look at Anita's outfit.
Ever since my impression of the movie is always tinged with regret and my unwavering belief that Spirits of the Dead should be THE iconic Jane Fonda 60's boot movie. But, the stripy boot outfit has achieved a special place in the hearts of people who aren't overly interested in boots.
