From Oggi Domani Dopodomani (1965) A rare look at pre-1967 thigh high fashion boots. And it's a lovely look indeed. While thigh-high boots made their runway debut in 1961, they remained quite rare on film until their explosion on the catwalk and soundstage in the later part of the 60's. This is only speculation on my part, but because of the special attention Marcello Mastroianni pays to these black leather lovelies, I presume they were included for reasons beyond fashion.
That's a very nice find and a great example of that style of boots from a period when they were not all that common. For some reason it reminds me of that scene in Arabesque (1966) where Alan Badel zips up Sophia Loren's boot.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't made the connection with the Arabesque scene, perhaps because that one is clearly kink motivated (he's purv-ing out in a mirrored room full of shoes). In this one the kink is merely implied. I've gotten new info on this film and I hope an upgrade with subtitles in in the works. Thanks for the input.
DeleteA translation would be great and give some sense of backstory (although when you watch it it's kinda obvious what's going on). This is an awesome clip - well done for tracking it down. Lifted a few grabs to my tumblr blog (with attribution) - hope this is OK.
ReplyDeleteTotally cool with you using anything you like. Turns out this sequence has a confusing, history. More later.
Deleteplease more removal with this style it is wonderful
ReplyDeleteIn the dialogue the is only one reference to boots:
ReplyDeleteHe graps the boots with both hands.
He: "Our ceremony - where should I start."
She: "Let's see."
He: "Oh these boots are so long."
He proceeds upwards.
He: "Come on. Red garter?
She: "Take them off the feet."
He stops with the second boot.
She: "Oh come on"
He: "It doesn't want to come off. Such cute little feet. ...."
Sensational clip. Giant find Mr. Bruce.
