Our Newest Heartbreak?

So, Shadowhunters debuted on "Freeform" (was "ABC Family" up until yesterday) last night.  The lesson of Into The Badlands still fresh in my mind, I watched (well, quickly scanned through) with some trepidation.  As feared, it was a festival of 2014 era ankle shoes. The standard Shadowhunter outfits might be of interest to shiny fans and heel-heads who can overlook boots that seem to rarely reach to the calf, but which have astonishingly high heels(esp in episode 2).  The entire show is cursed by black clothes in darkened rooms. But there is hope.

Clary (the red-headed lead) spends the end of e01 and the beginning of e02 in a tasty pair of high-heeled OTK's worn with a short leather outfit. Bare legs show off the boots very well and in the second episode (released to the web as a preview) she actually spends some time in a room with lightbulbs. It says something sad about her character that she was reluctant to wear the outfit, and eager to change out of it.

In these first two episodes the brunette, who has always promised to be the better dressed, never wore boots above her calf, but rocked some impressive vinyl outfits.

This show will always draw comparisons with The Shannara Chronicles. Both are based on a series of books, debuted in early 2016 and attempt to appeal to a younger demographic. On those rare occasions when Shadowhunters is good, its going to be very, very good. Shannara will always feature at least one pair of well photographed knee-high flats, but will probably NOT highlight the occasional pair of spiky thighboots. In many ways it's Gotham Vs Supergirl. And if you understand that analogy, I'm being clearer than I thought.
