From Sonny and Jed (1972) In this Western, Susan George is seen buying a nice pair of pull on knee boots and then having various outlaw-y adventures in them. This clip prompts 3 observations-
1. I've always been fascinated how current fashion trends influence the wardrobe choices for movies set in the past or future. Here Ms George's boots would be hard to distinguish from dress boots of the early 70's. She was a few years ahead of the trend by wearing them over her pants, but most of her look is reminiscent of 70's couture. I'll have to dig up the late 60's spaghetti western I found that stars a Italian playing a Native American woman dressed in a mini-skirt and thigh-high moccasins.
2. With VERY few exceptions, spaghetti westerns don't feature significant bootage. As a rule they don't have the "spunky cow-gal" character required. I've checked 100's of them and for the most part it's all saloon gal or schoolmarm. You'll notice in Sonny and Jed, the booted woman is English. There is the occasional outlaw's moll character, but she'll usually be wearing pants OVER her boots.
3. In Sonny and Jed, Tomas Milian wears (for him) remarkably little eye-liner. Trust me, in cult movie circles a good TM eyeliner joke KILLS.
