Against All Flags (1952)is arguably the best over-all boot movie of the pre-fashion boot era(prior to 1961). If you factor in minutes of screen-time, quality of boots and the quality of available prints I can't think of a feature film that comes close. It played all the time on TV when I was young and you can chart the course of my boot obsession by the technology I used to watch it. I've filmed this movie off the TV screen with a Super-8 camera, I copied on to VHS, I've ripped it from a DVD and now, here's a BluRay version.
I made this edit when the BluRay was released about 4 years ago. It's the best I've seen, but to be honest I'm acquiring the uncompressed version as I type(watching this again re-ignited my fire). I love this movie like home-cooking. It is so close to my heart I can't judge it by the conventional yardsticks. It is simply, Maureen O'Hara in those boots leaning back and saying, "Get to it Mr. Hawk."
