Are You A Shafty Or A Heel-Head?

Look at these two pictures of Blake Lively in "leather" pants. Most will agree that neither boot is perfect. It is likely that you'll find one pair vaguely interesting and one pair absolutely nauseating. As a shafty, I would prefer if the pair to left climbed above the knee before that lovely cuff.  As a shafty, I would prefer that the pair to right be burned upon some sort of ceremonial altar. Your results may differ.

Or are you a purist?

This is a picture of Blake in high-heeled crotch-high boots by Stella McCartney. I often heard people whine that the perforations "ruined" them. I call these people purists. ANY deviation from leather, high-heeled thigh high boots is viewed as heresy.  I cannot help a purist. I find their blanket refusal to enjoy variety stifling. There's a wide world of boots out there and I can find something to enjoy about all of them (as long as they at least come close to the knee of course).
These pictures came from flickr user droopy_no.1. He just posted a Blake Lively flood. His picture choices can be a bit erratic sometimes, but with patience you can find some gems.

  1. There is little I can add. I have campaigned tirelessly on the boot forum community for 10 years that the short monstrosity shoe that some women insist on wearing is a best a heartbreaking disappointment. My personal fave style is a tall knee high (or 'knee scraper') with a good 4" heel. Stacked heel, tan leather for daytime, with a slimmer heel and shiny (but not patent) darker leather for evening.

But obviously that would be too specific!

  2. Gentlemen, gentlemen please.... I am what Bruce would characterize as a Heel-head and thats has been a definate advantage these past few years since the Beautiful Little invention called ankleboots has gotten it´s breakthrough. That is not to say that i don´t prefer a nice kneehigh black leather boot with a 3-4 inch heel, but i accept the ankleboots. Lucky me. ;)
