I'm ok with that

According to people who do this for a living, "Western" is one of the hot new trends this year.  This is usually accompanied by appalling shorty-cowgirl boots. At this moment I would like to inform the celeb-paps-fashion crowd that this style of western boot is COMPLETELY acceptable.  Good on ya' Rita Ora.

Kylie Minogue - Bette Davis Eyes - MELT! - 18.07.2015

Somebody shared this link in a comment a while back, thought I'd broadcast it with this mea culpa. In 2001, I was still running my other site and Kylie burst back onto the scene in all her booted glory. If you'll recall, there was a mini-boom in thighboots that year.  I dismissively predicted that Kylie was simply following that year's trend and would prove to be a fair-weather friend. I thought that the moment thighboots were no longer the "hot new thing" she would abandon them. 17 years later I will joyfully admit I was very, VERY wrong about Ms Minogue. She is truly one of the modern boot icons. And if Ariana Grande is still wearing boots in 17 years (or if any remembers who she is) I will gladly eat an old boot (preferably one of Kylie's).

Cagney and Lacey (Pink Boots)

A giant tip of the hat to Tamero Benz for sending this my way. It's a great scene and I've been trying to track down the episode name/number and have come up empty. If you've got any clues, I could certainly find a better copy.

This actually opened my eyes to a problem I've been ignoring. There was certainly some decent fashion bootage in Cagney and Lacey. But it ran for 7, 22 hour-long episode seasons. That's a lot of TV.  Are there any Cagney and Lacey specialists out there?  I could use some help.

Now, this is the stuff right here. From The Au Pair Girls (1972). Clearly the shoe store scene is the star, but the additional bootage isn't bad.  The yellow, platform knee-scrapers she's trying on are of particular interest. For quite a while now, AndyP and I have been exploring the trans-Atlantic differences in 60's and 70's boot styles. I can say with confidence that this yellow pair is as clearly English as any pair you'll find.  The toe alone is quintessentially 70's English.  When considered with the scallop over the kneecap, the platform (nice blue detail) and shaft, this boot is textbook "Benny Who." If you're new here, my lazy-man nomenclature names many boot styles by the TV shows they appeared in. This style was common in The Benny Hill Show and Dr Who, hence "Benny Who."
By way of contrast, the swing-set knee boots are mid-Atlantic, while the suede bedroom knee-scrapers are still somewhat English, but lack the extreme detail of the shoe-store platforms.
