From Hawaii Five 0 (S03e04) the lovely Arielle Kebbel in riding boots. At the end of the clip there are some other boots (on another actress) that would be best described as riding-style boots.

  1. I just discovered your blog. Hawaii is the last place you would expect to see women wearing boots. You do see a lot of flip flops which are equally awful worn by either sex. Many men and boys own no other footwear. It's disgusting. But I digress...

I was born and raised in the islands and lived there throughout the 1960s and 70. Many of my classmates wore those calf-high 1/2 inch heeled white boots with a zipper on the back. By 5th grade a few girls advanced to women's-sized knee high boots which had a 2 inch heel and zipped up the side. Kickball and balloon-popping games were played while wearing those boots. I learned at an early age to look forward to rainy days.

Much later I would see office ladies on King Street or the Fort Street mall in their mid-knee boots with 4 inch heels and platforms. Sometimes I would follow one of them for blocks. I don't believe I saw any thigh boots on the street. Occasionally a young girl would be wearing her mother's boots which went over her knees. I do remember seeing that famous pair of crotch boots in a Wild Pair store at the Pearlridge Mall. Never saw anyone try them on.

In 1983 I moved to California for my first real job. It was in late winter and I found it very hard to keep my mind on business. Soon afterwards I married Catherine (and we're still married) who I had to train to wear boots. She still doesn't like boots, but she wears them to keep me happy.
