Paddington

Saw Paddington last night. As you many know, Nicole Kidman plays the baddie, a tweedy, leathery taxidermist eager to stuff and mount (God that sounds filthy) our heroic little bear.  Over-all the costume department did a good job, kitting out the former Mrs Cruise in an assortment of fine Cruellian-librarian outfits. Sadly her boots got the short end of the stick. Her "snakeskin" action suit with riding boots was best of the lot, but sadly too few good views. For her main bit of action in the final reel she was wearing a pair of spiky-heeled, open-backed ankle "boots." Heel-heads might find something worthy in the number of close-ups and full view action shots. Shafties will gnash their teeth at the missed opportunity.

I will not be desperate to find a quality blu-ray version, but the extras might be of some value. And if you've got kids (or a 90 year old mother who can no longer follow complicated plots) there are worse ways to spend your time.

  1. I saw "Annie" yesterday (FWIW, I thought it was fantastic, all the more so given the not-so-glowing reviews). Several good boots in there -- mainly on Cameron Diaz at the end and on an actress playing a social services worker, plus a little from Rose Byrne. For a mainstream film, it was very booty.

    1. Annie's on my radar and I'm looking forward to a good HD version. But for my wife, cute animals and English accents (+ the Earl of Grantham) will always beat out cute kids and singing. If I were to suggest we go see Annie, she'd know I had ulterior motives. She suggests we take my mom to see Paddington and I just have to make sure I don't agree too quickly.

  2. The trailer for A Most Violent Year is full of great 70s boots on Jessica Chastain.

  3. Foe some reason the delightful Ms Kidman very rarely gets them on, either in real life or on screen. A missed opportunity for us all.

  4. Bruce, future mother movies, sadly bootfree.
What we did on our holiday. and The second best exotic marigold hotel.
Both have passed the over 90 years mother test.
