"This Gun" mystery solved?

A close-up of the picture below (click on to make it even bigger)
Back some 20+ years ago, a friend from thighboots.com told me about This Gun For Hire(1942) I've been interested in the boots Veronica Lake wears ever since. From VHS to DVD to Blu-ray I've looked for upgrades and studied the clip closely.  I always felt there something suspicious about the way the leather folded at the ankle. I feared it might be some sort of dreaded spat or "boot cover" Then I stumbled across the picture above. To view them full size you have to click-right click-view image. As you may imagine I have studied it closely.  You can clearly see the stitching on the vamp which reaches above the ankle and the zipper which runs almost down to the sole. That is a proper pair of boots. And, while I'm no expert, I think these might be actual patent leather. I'm not sure that the science of synthetics was advanced enough in 1942 to craft (and stitch) in the manner you see in this picture.
Looking at this picture, I'm more convinced than ever that Ms Lake's entire magic act was simply a ruse for a studio head to acquire a pair of crotch-high, high-heeled, shiny leather boots. It just strikes me as odd that these wonderful boots have never been seen before or since. I am admittedly less than certain of this hypothesis.
Here's some more pictures from This Gun For Hire and a Blu-ray version of her song about "fishing."
