A Report From Las Vegas

We're enjoying our annual winter trip to Las Vegas. What a wonderful time to be alive. What a boot show it's been. It almost seems like the ankle shoe nightmare of 2013/14 never happened. There have been few public moments where a decent pair of riders wasn't visible. It is a rare few minutes that go by between knee-scraper/OTK sightings. True thigh boots are common. There have been a surprising number of black leather spiky-heeled thigh boots. Most have an inexpensive, brand-new from JustFab vibe, but it shows that this year women are buying and wearing heeled thigh boots.

I've finally worked out that I'll be referring to the Stuart Weitzman High/Lowlands (and the myriad of knock-offs and lookalikes) as "stretch suede" boots. On a few occasions on this trip I've been reminded what "real" suede looks like.  I don't mind the new and popular look, but proper suede looks and fits much more like proper leather. In the dim casino lighting, I've often had to do double or triple takes to determine what was going on in a matte on matte (black boots/black pants) clash. Real suede boots don't look anything like pants.

I'm still waking up and the nearest coffee is 22 floors down, so maybe some more observations later, or maybe nothing until Monday.

  1. Interesting. I was there in October for one night and really didn't see much. On the other hand, I didn't go into a casino. I suppose that's where they all are?

  2. Last night when I was out and about with the wife, I saw two women wearing the Weitzman OTKs. Despite the literally 100s of photos on blogs I've seen of them, I'd never actually seen anyone, in person, wearing them.

As always (to me anyway), in-person sitings are much more enjoyable than film/photo (despite my hobby, which would tend to make it look otherwise).
