What's that tidbit of info I just read? There's an Annie Oakley in Carry On Cowboy?
Let's see what google image search has to show us about "Carry on Cowboy Annie Oakley"
Never Mind. I DO NOT need to waste my time on Carry On Cowboy. BTW side-zip ankle boots have to be one of the most historically inaccurate boots I've ever seen. Wait, that's not true, probably not even in the top 10.
But what's THAT picture 3 rows down-
God Damn you google image search!
Guess what I'll be doing for the next 45 minutes. So, the Internet says this is Mary Katherine Horony-Cummings, also known as Big Nose Kate(also known as Katie Elder). She was the companion/common-law wife of Doc Holliday. Yes, Joanna Pacula played her Tombstone, which is my sole source of Earp/Holliday knowledge. While the woman in this picture bears a passing resemblance to other pictures of Kate, the time-line doesn't match up. Upon due consideration, I believe, at best, this is a turn of the century photo of a woman playing Kate in a stage production.
Well, I'm never getting that hour of my life back, nice spurs though. And on the inside of her calf, what modern eyes might see as a side-zip is mostly likely a casual kind of lacing which was common in theatrical boots of the period.
