I've long maintained that costume design for historical features will often better reflect the period they were made, rather then the period they are set it. Saints and Soldiers: Airborne Creed (2012) is a clear case in point. The lovely brown riders she's wearing over her pants speak more towards a 2011 shopping mall, than a WWII resistance fighter.  I am quite confident that if this movie had been made 3 years earlier or later they would have dressed her in some sort of lace-up ankle boot.  No work of creation happens in a vacuum. Most aspects of a collaborative art like film-making are filtered through a "modern" lens. Sometimes that works out for us.
