I like women in boots. This should come as no surprise. Both women and boots are key ingredients and if forced to choose, I'd go with women every time. Unbooted women possess many attributes I find delightful. I have virtually no interest in boots without ladies. I know from experience that many people can take great enjoyment from pictures of just boots. I also understand that many people enjoy men in boots. I'm just not one of them.
So you can image that for me, the movie and musical Kinky Boots is a disappointment. This isn't a moral or esthetic judgement, simply a matter of personal taste. As a curmudgeon, I'd like to speculate that the pop culture pairing of cross-dressers and high boots is bad for us in the same way Pretty Woman probably led to the 90's/2000's boot drought. I'd like to speculate that, but since the popularity of the movie and musical has run parallel to the golden age of boots.........
Now, if it had been a tale of a struggling shoe company that decided to
cater to the boot needs of dominatrices, I'd probably consider it the
feel-good hit of the decade. Instead, its a simply a disappointment.
Except for one scene. One glorious, completely misguided scene. On the road to making stripper boots for England's drag community, our cobbler hero makes a pair of magnificent burgundy suede crotch high boots. And then he has his adorable assistant model them (after he awkwardly zips them up for her). For my money these boots are just a tapered toe and Cuban heel away from perfection. And the shaft could be a little more fitted around the ankle and calf.

Heel-heads will be disappointed by the suede crotch high flat boots in this scene from Kinky Boots (2005) But unlike all the other boots in the movie, this pair is worn by a woman.
Said so much more eloquently than I could manage. Totally agree.
